Meet Dr. Katie Larson PT, DPT

Perinatal, pregnancy & postpartum care, women’s health, men’s health

My interest in physical therapy started when I was growing up in a small farming town in southwestern Wisconsin. My dad is a farmer and was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis when I was young. This sparked my interest in the human body and how movement occurs because of how my dad's body was affected after this diagnosis. Throughout high school and the beginning of college, I was convinced I would specialize in Neurological Physical Therapy because I would be able to help people, like my dad, living with movement issues resulting from injury or disease in the nervous system.

During my second year of my Doctor of Physical Therapy program at Carroll University, I started learning about pelvic floor health. We were learning about different physical therapy specialties, and I felt pulled to pelvic health. I remembered my mom and aunt's talking about stress incontinence and leaking. They told me that I would "just have to deal with it" if I ever had kids, and I didn't think I should have to accept peeing my pants as normal if I became a mom. I know women joke about peeing their pants because it's common, but it's not normal. I learned that's where pelvic floor physical therapy can make a difference for these women. When I had my final clinical rotation with a pelvic floor specialist, I confirmed that becoming a pelvic floor physical therapist was my passion because I was amazed at how many symptoms and conditions pelvic floor specialists can treat!

I now enjoy helping women and men overcome bowel, uinary, and sexual dysfunctions. I get to support prenatal moms preparing for healthy pregnancies and deliveries, as well as guiding postpartum moms through recovery so they don't have to live with incontinence forever. Since graduation, I have expanded my knowledge and skills through mentorship from amazing coworkers, hands-on clinical experience, and pelvic health classes focused on urinary, bowel, and sexual dysfunctions. I earned dry needling certification, which has been a great adjunct to my treatment plans and helps my clients find relief. I am dedicated to helping my clients meet their pelvic health goals and am thrilled to be part of the Pelvic Health & Wellness team!

When I am not at work, I love traveling to new places, relaxing at the beach in the summer, camping, and trying new restaurants and events in Milwaukee with my friends.
